ingredients:
cups masa harina flour
3 cups water, approximately
24 ounces canned refried beans
3 cups soft white cheese
light vegetable oil or light olive oil.
Roll each into a ball and flatten between the palms of your hands to about 1/2-inch thick. Make sure to rub oil on your hands to prevent the dough from sticking to them. Put a spoonful of beans and a small handful of cheese into the center of each pupusa. Bring it upwards to close it. Flatten again with the filling inside.
Brush with oil and cook pupusas on each side 4-5 minutes until a pale golden-brown. The outside should be firm.
- Serve with Curtido.(cabbage, carrots, onion, a dry arbol chile, dried oregano, vinegar(preferably apple cider vinegar), water, and salt to taste.)
- Have plenty for your Salvadoran buddies.
- Have napkins on hand; they're greasy and good!
- Have a nice, cool drink with it.
